Storying Sheffield

Chocolate Box

By Tom Scott

I am a 20-year-old student at Sheffield College doing a course in Film and SFX. My friend Clark Henstock and I were asked by a Project called the Chocolate Box that befriends sex workers on the streets of Sheffield to make a short documentary film to highlight their work. We interviewed the director of the project and used an actress (my sister – Eva Scott) to voice over the words of the woman themselves. I filmed the footage using different angles and locations mentioned by the women in the red-light district of Sheffield. I also directed the piece in the subway. It was a very revealing experience, it showed the downtrodden areas of my city and I was shocked by the way these women are treated. Clark edited the interview and composed the musical piece at the end. I hope we have produced a piece of work that tells an unheard story and makes people think.
